From Nom, head s, 7e, u. Recall set here as it is a safe room (marked by the distinctive 'Goblin Terry Torry' sign). It's actually outside the Mushroom Caves area, which means nothing will GLARE at you and SNARL after you flee. Remember to quit and log back in if you flee and recall; this makes anything you fled from forget you, and stops them from tracking you down again when you re-enter the area.

2e from the safe room there will be the guard post containing two stationary mobs; usually a sleeping goblin on top and a drunk goblin underneath (maybe a wanderer, including crazed goblins). K dru first so as to avoid assists.

From here, e, 4n takes you to a room called 'The goblin camp', which usually has 5 mobs in it - only the top two are awake. This is another good room, since the wandering crazed goblins don't enter it. No aggies = safe place to sleep. (Really nice place to sleep if you are a NOSUN race, since it's indoors, unlike the room with the 'Terry Torry' sign outside the area). From here, n, w, n takes you to the pair of fanatical guards... but more of them later.

There is normally a crazed goblin north of the goblin camp, but they do wander. The room north of the goblin camp seems to only have exits west and south, but there is a hidden door to the east that leads to a room with the goblin shaman in it (another portal point). The shaman is worth some good exp but casts blindness and faerie fire as well as healing itself, so I usually don't bother. Oh, and don't loot the corpse, since it carries cursed stuff that is really not worth it.

Other areas of note:

From the camp, 2s takes you back to a mushroom cave where there are normally around 3 mushroom collectors (and miscellaneous wandering mobs) that flee. ene to the toadstool monster (which is stationary and seen on scan as A large and strange creature is munching on the mushrooms), a rather difficult mob as he has armor and poisions - don't bother.

From the guard post go n, 2w to get to another mushroom cave. I've seen up to 6 mushroom carriers here, fleers again. From here, w, 2n to get to the distillery - another room the crazed goblins don't wander into. Usually holds 4 goblins plus the odd keg or mushroom carrying goblin.

From the distillery, e, s, e takes you to the mushroom patch that is 2s from the camp. E, n, e, 2n from the distillery takes you to the pair of fanatical guards outside the throne room door. Be wary of fighting in the room south of them... if you flee into their room you will probably die, and dying in a room where 2 aggie mobs repop is no fun for a low character.

Finally, north of the 2 aggressive fanatical guards through a closed but unlocked door is the throne room, usually containing the king, a servant and two guards (aggie). The king will assist as well, so I normally don't bother with this room until about level 8 or maybe 9. Important to remember that repop will close the door - if you think you may have to flee, look every round of combat or so to see if the door is closed. In fact, since repop will replace the aggie guards outside, trying to recall from combat is definitely a good option.

All the mobs in this area are evil, so it's a good area to return to good alignment if needed.
The general difficulty of the most common mobs, in increasing order, is:
* Hobgoblin Flunky
* Rats
* Farmers
* Fish
* Barraccudas

This of course doesn't include "special" mobs like Goldmoon, Riverwind, or the Farmer.

As a rule, the mobs will assist here, so be careful fighting in large rooms. There are also hidden wandering mobs akin to the field rats in Solace, so even though a room may appear safe, be wary of other hidden mobs assisting.

You may come across Fewmaster Toede in your travels through the area. He is a smallish aggy who has sanc and a wield. He's not terribly difficult, but he could catch a lower hp character off guard.

Directly south and east of the Solace entrance you will find Goldmoon. She will act as a healer and cast spells on you if you are below level 10, but her room is _not_ nofight, so you are not safe from Toede here. Up and north will take you to the White Stone Road (Highways/Great Wall) and the trail around Solace.

The area south of Solace has various wandering hobgoblins, farmers, and rats eating grain, none of which are terribly difficult. 2swn from the Solace entrance will land you in Grunka's.

The lake itself is located 3w from the Solace entrance. Going d will take you underwater into a looping maze filled with alternating rooms of fish and barraccuda. Both will assist, and the barraccuda will aggy, so be _very_ careful if you choose to go down here unspelled.

wnw from the Solace entrance will take you to the Rivers area that holds the mini-quest for the Belt Of Crystalmir. Continuing to walk west will bring you back to the other side of the shore.

All west, all north, and west will bring you to the smoldering campsite. From here you can go west to Fewmaster's Folly, south to Ogre Village, or you can pull the bracer out of the fire for a +mv +hp +str anti-good wrist item. Don't wander too far south into Ogre Village if you're tiny though :)

West, all north, and all west will take you on a path to Descent to Hell. The farm dogs will aggy, and have the needed key to get inside the house, but are not terribly difficult. The pooh bear inside is of moderate difficulty. South through the book in the child's room will bring you into descent: the path is one-way, so don't walk through unless you actually intend to do some killing there.

Finally, if you wander in the southwestern corner of the map, keep an eye out for the Farmer and the room full of robed figures - the former has a wield and is a bit tougher, the latter are bigger mobs that (you guessed it) will assist if you start attacking.

Directions from Sol: 3e 2n 3e 5n 7e

The Weeping is a fairly large area divided roughly into two different sections - the wilderness, with wolves and deer, and the gremlin island with _lots_ of gremlins.

Immediately east of the entrace the trail will split into north and south directions; the northward path will bring you past numerous buck, wolves, and a doe's den, eventually leading to a dead end. The south path will branch east and bring you past more buck and wolves eventually leading to the gremlin island. After taking the initial south turn, the next south branch curves back around west to an aggy female wolf, who is not terribly difficult.

These four groups of mobs make up the first half of the area. Their approximate difficulty, in increasing order is:
* doe
* buck
* wolf
* she-wolf

Continuing east and north will eventually land you on the gremlin island, where there are a _ton_ of gremlins for the killing. None are difficult, and they should be good and fast xp for lv. 5-7. Be warned, however, that they do have the tendancy to assist, so be careful in large rooms, especially if you are low on HP.

There are a couple of rooms of interest near the centre of the gremlin island; the kitchen, nearly in the centre of the island, leads down to the source of the gremlin water, which is free lowmort giant strength if you drink. As well, there are two closed doors in separate rooms near the centre of the island: one leading north and one leading south.

Through the south door will take you to two guards (a bit tougher with wield/shield but not aggy). You can go east and then up, but watch for a hidden aggy troll guardian (room name Gloom and Doom, "hidden danger" on scan if you have detect hidden). He is a bit tougher than the rest of the mobs and will get the first hit in if you dont have detect hidden or an areaspell. Up again from here will take you to an ancient elf, who holds a ticket for an item (the target of which is easy to discern, but not easy to locate unless you are very familliar with the mud or have teleport).

Back and through the north door lands you in the court of the gremlin king. West and down from the king will land you in the shrine of Jacros; watch for an aggy hidden keeper of the statue. In the statue's hand you'll find another ticket for another obscure item.

Overall a great area, especially if you stay in the midst of the plentiful gremlins. It is home to a couple of useful low level ac pieces, namely the Tunic Of Lichen and the Sharpened Willow Stick.
A very fun area to run, especially if one likes the Brothers Grimm stories. A good mix of good and evil mobs (which is which should be blatantly apparent)

Starting off, the area is divided into 5 directions from the brothers:
* North is Cinderella, and her section. Nothing special here, besides wigs if you really want them.
* South is Rapunzel and her section, nothing special here, only a few mobs to kill
* East is Hansel&Gretel's area, along with the big bad wolf. Odd maze in here, wander around and you'll eventually get back to where you started, or the wolf's house, or Hansel&Gretel
* Up is aggie giants, leading to Brave Little Tailor, who has the Seven In One Belt (+str). Very useful to boost hr/dr till you've maxxed strength (or get ogre gaunts)
* Lastly Down brings you to the seven AGGIE dwarves. Be spelled when you come in here, or pray you dont die. If you get past them, you will be rewarded with Snow White and her tank gear neckpiece.

This area is big and fun to learn. This area is scattered with various mobs. One big difficult with this area is the fleeing mobs it can seriously slow down a run. Basically there are four groups of mobs here. The souls, the lost heros are weak easy low exp mobs that can be ignored if you want. The Guardians of Fate are the wondering aggie mobs that are good exp and dont flee, the three headed mobs wich are very good exp but flee, and the four dragons placed in the corners of the map. In this area you should generally wonder and kill, but make sure to kill aggies first and work your way down to the others. Some groups may want to try to get fatewalkers, however, be wary not to quaff the wrong fountain with the risk of being sent to a mystery location. No mobs here are of exceeding difficulty or provide a real threat though its advised for large groupies because this area can get swarmy and troublesome for small groupies.

Aggie Mobs: Guardians of Fate (Note: these have various names i.e. guardian/warrior/defender but often will only respond to guardian when targeted),Atropos, Lachesis, Clothos and four dragons.

Non-Aggie Mobs: Gypsy (though not in direct area is decent exp and required for quest)Souls, Lost Hero, and Three-Headed mobs

Path: From Ulrich go north, west, six north, three east, two south, three east, then two south. Gypsy is east from here and main area is south then down from here.

Gear: Blazing Red Skirt (Archer item skinned from Blazing Red Dragon) and Fatewalkers (Fairly long quest with these directions; Clothos for spindle is sdnnnnwwwnnnwws then quaff, Atropos is sdnnw then quaff, and Lachesis is sdnnnnwwwnnnwnneeese then quaff, give these to the Gypsy in the order of spindle, rod, then scissors to recieve Fatewalkers)
Pretty dangerous area. IIRC, sweet exp for a buff duo or trio. Don't wander into the Golden Web unless you know what you're doing.

This is an fun area to run with many interesting bonuses. Idolatry is very swarmy and some mobs have interesting abilities. The drider hunters at the top of web will rescue each other (note: This can change tank so watch their movements). Also Lloth-Ra Knights in the golden web section have charged shields(this is very harsh on small tanks and groupies). When entering the area destroy the hunters at the top if you wish or head for the real exp in the underbelly of the area. Head to the northwestern part of the area till you can go down and jurney down. Make sure to kill Priestesses before arachs, and when fighting arachs keep in mind they flee so you may wanna bash/trip/throw them. Directly east after going down a few times you will find three arachlings (note: this is where corpses are brought after a death to queen). If you are feeling really brave head in the southeasterndirection to the golden web. This is where the big Lloth-Ra Knights and web tender live. A defeat from a Llotha-Ra Knight urns you a trip to the Queen where you get to try to defeat a bow mob with 10 hp and mana (see gear). This area is not a great area to have a group death but overall good exp and fun for those who do come.
Note: To kill the queen you have a few options. If you are a rogue you can blackjack the queen when you get there. Non Rogues should switch to tank gear quaff hp up then kill queen.
The Village of Gnimh is similar in concept to Solace, except it has fewer mobs and a smaller level range on mobs. As with Solace, mobs here will lower your align, but it's a good place to pick up xp if you don't care about alignment (it's farther from Sol, hence, it has less players running through it.)

As with Solace, there are a large number of wandering mobs, and a few stationary shopkeeps/officers/etc. Roughly, the order of difficulty is:
* Children/Youths
* Citizens, Cadets, Freshmen
* Villagers, Sophomores, Seniors
* Shoppies/Guards/Officers

As with most other low levels, use consider liberally to find out the size of the mob you're fighting.

The area itself is made up of two main parts: the village (where you enter from the White Stone Road), and in the southeast corner of the village, the Gnimh academy. Again, no outstanding mobs or aggies, just well written rooms with lots of wandering mobs.

As far as gear is concerned, the jeweller has the Jeweler's Loupe, which is the only piece of int gear for the head for a long time. Get it if you need a bit of an int boost for practicing.
This is one of the first levels whose creatures have a good range of difficulties. As such, remember consider is your friend and use it liberally on the different types of mobs. The area is dark so make sure to bring a light along.

For lower level characters, stick to killing the kobolds, the dryad, and the water sprites. One of the kobolds may be wearing Buck-Skin Gloves, which are +dex gear for hands - decent if you don't have anything else on your mitts already. Higher-end chars should try the evil goblins and the orcs, but be aware they have wields.

The raven that wanders around has the black key needed to unlock the witch's cottage at the end of the area. To get to the cottage, you'll have to walk in a big counter-clockwise spiral, being mindful of the numerous one-way paths that can make life confusing.

The witch at the end of the cavern is pretty tough, and she holds a +3 damroll wield.

s3e2n from the entrance will lead you towards the other end of land, which is where the dracolich resides. Like the myconoid shaman, he's sanced. Unlike the myconoid shaman, he's got a wield and hits HARD - be careful killing him unspelled. If you manage to kill him, you can loot his Glowing Suit of Banded Mail (+str on body gear), his wield, and use the key to unlock the chest to get a Copper Bracelet (wrist hit gear), the Red-Eyed Jewel (held +2int gear), and various other not-so-useful gems, which can be sold at the jeweller for a bit of cash.

Goblin Caverns is mostly a useful area to run because of its proximity to the other small areas adjoining it. Killing here won't hurt your align, so it's a good place to stop by; however, it suffers from a shortage of killable (unspelled) mobs.

Follow the path till you see an option to go down (ignore the earlier north branch). From here, north will take you into a small house where a female goblin wanders, south will take you to the torturer, and down will take you farther into the tunnels. Look for the jailer on scan (he wanders - he may be farther down), and kill him for his two keys. The normal key will unlock the door south of the torturer, where you can kill the dwarf prisoner, and the crude key is a ticket for the tortured human. Giving it to him will cause him to drop a 9999kg treasure :) (If anyone knows a use for this, let us know!).

Down on the first level, there'll be a nearly worked to death prisoner, who is easy to kill but does a bit of damage since he has a wield, and usually a goblin child (easy kill).

Somewhere on the three levels you'll see a wretched creature - he aggies sleepers and flees. Most importantly, the creature has a boat, which you'll need to get to see the rest of the level (or be water breathing/flying). Be careful not to go too far north on the third level without the boat, or you'll drown.

In the water area on the third level, there is a blind fish for an easy kill, and on the north shore, two orc guards. These guys are big, armored, wield-bearing, and aggy, so you definitely DO NOT want to fight them without spells (or lots of quaffables). If you do manage to get past them, east and north will take you to the goblin guards. There's quite a few in this room, all armored and wielding swords, and they will assist, so fight in this room with care. For all your troubles, you can get the brass button (pill, level 1 spells of nothing) or walk outside the cave into... nothing.
Some will also steal gold, so don't go wandering around with a huge chunk of change in your pocket.

There are plenty of orphans of equal difficulty that wander through the complex, so the highlights are:

3e3n from the entrance is Cook (gray skinned goblin on scan) which aggies and wields a knife. East of him is One-eye, who has the Scarlet Silk Sash (+con gear for waist, usually wearable by level 4). One-eye is also the start and end of a short quest which produces a cure serious potion (Herbal Tea) as a reward. Down from the cook is a small passage; at the end lies a bit of history - you'll see the last of the wargs (also where you might have ended up by tele'ing to warg).

3es from the entrance is a Solace townguard - he's a bit easier than the ones in the town (still tougher than the rest of the mobs), but wears the same Black Plate Armor - decent gear if you don't have Target Armor or Glowing Suit of Banded Mail. South from him is the inspector and the master of the orphanage - the master is sanced and not really worth fighting.

Going through the closed doors, either 5e or 3e2n2e will take you into the "real" orphanage. Watch for Hamish ("taller, meaner orphan" on scan) as he'll aggy.

Inside the real orphanage, there are two mobs that wander with keys to locked areas. The orphan basher has the key to Bones' room (which is in the southeast corner of the orphanage) - Bones' himself has a potion of refresh + cure light - and the caretaker has the key to the store room (en of "Bottom of the Staircase" room). The store room has another chest which I couldn't find the key to, but apparently it contains held int gear same as the orb of knowledge.

2e from "bottom of the staircase" takes you to an intersection, south of which is Doctor Leech. He's got Bloodstained Trousers - good con gear for legs, and normally wearable by level 4. North and up from the intersection is Matron Fey, who you won't want to fight, but her journal might provide some hints as to how to finish the mini quest. Through a closed door, east will take you to Tulip, who has +str gear for arms (not as good as the strongman's bracers, but decent for those without them.). Farther east and south will land you in Molin's (it's a one-way exit.)
Another gem of the newbie game, the circus is where most new players first flex their problem solving muscle in pursuit of the Strongman's Bracers. It's got lots of mobs, some danger, and an interesting room structure, as well as useful gear. Remember to use consider, and to watch your align, as most mobs will drop it.

At the entrance of the circus, buy a ticket from the clerk, but don't even think about fighting him - he's the biggest mob in the area and will smish you.

Immediately inside the circus area, there are plenty of mothers/children/fathers wandering around, who are all of about the same difficulty. East from the cotton candy vendor is the freak show - they are a bit harder than the normal mobs but all carry keys to their respective tents. Ivan the strongman (who has the key to the Strongman's Bracers in his tent) is hidden, so you'll have to get a detect potion of some sort or holy sight to see him.

Farther south is the entrance to the big top, which you can unlock with the ticket purchased from the clerk. Inside the big top there are wandering audience members, which are about the same difficulty as the mobs outside, but tend to flee. The ringmaster, s from the entrance, is a bit tougher then the rest of the mobs.

South from the ringmaster is the second ring, which has a bunch of clowns. I'm not sure if they assist, but you might not want to find out if there are a lot in the room. Down from the clowns is... more clowns!

East from the second ring is the knife thrower and his assistant. The knife thrower has a wield, and drugged food (which will cast sleep on you, so don't eat it). Also, be careful of his assistant - she's wearing the blindfold, which you'll have to die or get a psi to decept off if you accidentally put it on.

West from the second ring is a locked door, through which is the first ring and the nasty aggy corpse-eating lions. Needless to say, you'll want to stay out of the room unless you have a pressing reason not to.

Up from the second ring is the tightrope, which holds a few tightrope walker mobs (about average difficulty), and 3w and a hidden door down leads to behind the big top. Make sure you go all the way to the end - 2wd will land you in the lion's pen.

South from the trap door is the pens, which have one horse, two elephant, and two bear mobs all of identical difficulty. Try the horse first to see how you can handle before moving on, and be warned that the bears will aggy and the elephants will assist.

East from the trap door is the performers tents, the best of which is the strongman's (for the bracers) -- the guard dog in the midget's tent will aggy, but he's not tough. Farther east and south is the circus owner, which is the second toughest mob in the area. He's holding the key to a secret leading to a small amount of gold, but I would stay away from him.

All west from the trap door will lead you out of the area into the Rivers of Avatar.
If you are a smallish character, it's probably best to avoid both these or stack kill commands in them. Portalling merc cap will either take you to outside the castle, or on the second floor (depending on which repopped last). Presuming you ended up outside (the non-sanced one), there will be wandering mercenaries that will flee and assist. The captain has a wield, but he's not too tough. South from the captain will be a paper; that's your ticket to get inside the castle. Give it to the guard south and west to get the key; the door is east. The second floor has a hidden door north; going north will take you to the second set of mercs.
