Enchanting is the process of using Enchant Weapon, Enchant Armor and Enchant Bow to improve an item of that type. While enchanting gear is not necessary, gear with enchantments are highly prized, especially hero level gear that is either single or double brilled.

Enchanting carries a price, however. One can either successfully enchant the item, adding either +1 hr/+1 dr (+2/+2 with a brilled enchant weapon), -2 AC (-3 AC with a brilled enchant armor) or +2 hit roll (+3 with a brilled enchant bow) respectively, the item can fade, explode, or nothing at all can happen. In the case of a successful enchant or a fade, the item will raise in level, depending on the level of the caster with respect to the item.

Enchanting items that already have enchantments on them appears to be more difficult, though much is governed by luck. While some items are easier to enchant than others, gear with armor class modifiers on them already, such as tank gear tends to be harder to enchant than items without, such as mana gear.

If you worship certain Gods and Goddesses then the odds of successfully enchanting will change based on your deity's presence. Every so often while enchanting you'll see the message "You feel the presence of <godname>!". Depending on who you worship this can be a good thing or a bad thing.

There is also some speculation that the ingame day and month affect enchanting. It is believed that "Day of Sun" / "Month of Sun" is a beneficial combination. Anyone who can attest to this or other combinations please post your results below.
Recommended Group size: 13-16, 4+ tanks 5+ casters, at 1-2+ healers, and 1+ archer (needed))<br>
Note #1: this run generally takes 2 spellups, 1 for the ticket, 1 for the gear.<br>
Note #2: You don't need to have an archer on the actual run; you can bring corpses back to Thorngate and have someone alt to an arc/fus and skin the corpses there.<br>
Note #3: 2n e from shift is Lloydable

Ticket portion
Planeshift to FireRealm and after shift is dead, head 3n 3e. After entering the water room, head up
and then n e. Send a tank to areaspell the two Massive Fire Elementals (show up on scan as Impossibly large flames burn with a deadly rage, in a room called Eye of the Storm.) and head up to enter the Great Inferno. The next portion is a maze that loads randomly. To get to the top, head up, north, and east. The summit is approximately 15-20 rooms away. At the summit (Room name: Inferno's Summit), the Inferno Dragon (Scan description: A multi-colored winged terror flies through fire to attack you)awaits. She has no wield, and is the only mob in the room. Kill her and skin the corpse of the Breath of the Dragon ticket. Camp the ticket (if desired).<br>
Note: The Great Inferno subarea can get extremely swarmy. I've had a 9 mob swarm once which was very draining on the priest. <br>

Gear portion
Planeshift to FireRealm and after shift is dead, head 3s w d e. You will enter the Emberforge (the entire area is noregen), a subarea that has 3-4 nospell rooms. From the first entrance room Head 2n 3e s, kill Fire to get the first key. Then walk back to the first room and head 2s 3e n kill Catalyst for the second key. Walk back to the first room. Unlock and move east, and then unlock east again, and send a tank to kill Iconoclastor. He loads with the Lava Striders.<br>
Note: The Iconoclastor will periodically summon guards but they are extremely weak.
<br>
Portal Lava naga from Iconoclastor's room and regen either in proper, or at home. If you have a paladin or druid, the room 2n e from shift can be safe havened and is lloydable. After regenning, track or portal Valarauco (Scan description: A demon of fire lashes out at its enemies) and Malarauko (Scan description: A demon of fire destroys everything it surveys), the demon twins that hold the heart of Heat (Valarauco) and the limit of Light (Malarauko). These two items are tickets, used in conjugation with Breath of the Dragon, to enter the Phoenix Room. Malarukao and Valarukao hit decently hard, and demonfire. If the two mobs are untrackable, use the where command to locate them. They may have wandered into the Emberforge area. If that is the case, you must return there (3s w d e from shift) and wander until you find them. <br>

With the tickets, portal to Lava Naga and track Asland. Form your chain and send a tank into the 4 mob room. Asland is an archer type mob and may switch targets and he also uses ebony arrows. Fyr and Kohl hit decently hard. While the group is in battle, have the leader give Breath of the Dragon to Puritan (and have Heart of Heat and Limit of Light in inventory). This will open up a gateway into the Burning Throne where the Burning Phoenix is. Asland loads with the Pelt Of Flame's Perfection. Have a tank enter the gateway to Phoenix room and attack him, and the rest of the group follow. Once again, the Phoenix room only has 1 mob and is extremely easy. Skin the corpse for Phoenix-Feather Greaves. Regen in this room if you decide to camp.<br>
Note: The Burning Phoenix will eat corpses.<br>

Prime Requisite: Intelligence.

Stormlords in General
See Mages for an example.

Apparently only those races with Racial Nosun are incapable of becoming Stormlords.

* Although I've heard rumors there's an exception for Gargoyles

Stormlords SURGE ability is reduced from 1-5 to 1-3.

Stormlord Creation
To become a Stormlord you need to have three requirements:

1) Any race can become a Stormlord as long as they DO NOT have the no-sun racial.

2) The weather must be stormy (lightning).

3) Level 50 Mage.

Stormlords at Hero Tier
Training
You really only need to practice surge and disintegrate, concentration and shield block help if you are tanking. Practice your STM skills at 101, and either solo with disintegrate or use them in groups.

Devoting
SHZ is best for stats and enchanting, Bhyss is best for damage.

Fighting
Soloing: Get a decent set of ac, use the bots for spells, and surge 2ish disintegrate. Tortugas are awesome. To be able to use your stormlord spells you need to be on top of the target you're fighting; and you need to recast your sustained spells before every round of combat.

Tanking: Stormlords can tank same as mage, and to be able to use their stormlord spells they need to be on top of the target they are fighting.

Hitting: Make pretty decent hitters once they get some mana, cloudburst does better damage than disintegrate.

Healing: Can brandish at lower hero levels if necessairy

Stormlords at Lord Tier
Here is where STM shines. You won't have much mana, but it seems to last pretty well. Maelstrom doesn't do much damage with STM, but Thunderhead and blizzard are awesome. Use thunderhead and/or gale stratum and then either thunderhead or blizzard depending on how many mobs in the room. Can't use many commands while sustaining your weather spells but you will get a hang of it fast. If you got extra mana while regenning, toss in a spring rain for your buddies.

Stormlord Remort Options
Can remort races, but no classes, although when I type remort, it says sor is an option..probably a bug.
Catching tics is an effective way for grouped spellcasters like mages and clerics to somewhat alleviate mana shortages during runs--a problem that especially afflicts low-hero spellcasters. This technique involves sleeping periodically just as a fight begins and then waking either just after a tic has passed or just before one's group moves (often cued by receiving experience points). By being asleep when a tic occurs, sleeping spellcasters will regenerate a small amount of mana to use. This technique may be dangerous in some areas like Shadow Keep where aggressive-wimpy mobs will attack sleeping characters.

It is highly recommended to put the time in your prompt to help you catch tics. They occur on average every 30 seconds. This is equivalent to 6 rounds of combat.

<font color="red">WARNING</font>

Trying to get to/kill this mob can result in a very messy CR. You need someone in the group with rogue lore and either a psi, a mnd, or a bci to open doors on the way to Tssasskkas. Some of the Greater Water Elementals and the Jumaras have throwing weapons that hit everyone and return to their hand. Kill these mobs quickly, and make sure your healer is prepared to heal the weaker members in the group. Perhaps deception, disarm, or detonate can help. Don't get excited fusiliers, these nasty throwing weapons have inventory flags.

Here's how you get to Tssasskkas:

Portal to Rockfist, make your way to Spawner and head down. When you see the Animated Corpse Of Tssasskkas on scan enter that room, kill the mob(s), and have your group "enter vortex".

Once everyone is through find an up exit, go up and south. Warn your group that when you enter a private room, everyone should go east then west. Start heading east. When you find a blind room ("You can't see anything!") that's the private room, head west and be prepared to area spell if necessary.

Once everyone has regrouped and the room is clear, track Tssasskkas. Eventually track will tell you to walk through a hidden, locked door. Make sure you have detect magic up and pull a lever. You will probably need to pull it multiple times to let your whole group through.

Continue tracking Tssasskkas. You'll encounter a locked door that can only be opened by a character with rogue lore (pull stone). After that you'll find a door that only a psi, mnd, or bci can open. Not sure on the keyword, but saccing any corpses and typing "pull 1." should work if the psi can't figure it out.

At this point you're close. Watch out for Jumaras. They show up on scan as "a demon stalking the halls" or something like that. They have those nasty throwing weapons which hit your entire group over and over for lots of damage.

When you scan and see this above you:
A four-armed eyeless demon sneers and attacks.
A four-armed eyeless demon sneers and attacks.
You'll know you're close. Those mobs are Eyeless Terrors. They have a carb equivalent piece, and they occupy the room directly before Tssasskkas. Once you kill both of these mobs go up and kill Tssasskkas. If you've made it this far the final fight shouldn't be overly difficult.
Mages in General
Mages specialize in casting offensive spells. They can generally do more damage than characters of many other classes as long as they do not become depleted of their mana; this dependence upon their mana supply may be their greatest weakness. Mages, with their in-class transportation spells and surging ability and such, can obtain and enchant gear more easily than characters of most other classes, which makes them rather handy either for equipping their alternate characters or for earning money by selling enchanted gear to other players. Their ability to solo more easily than characters of most other classes may make mages especially appealing to players whose circumstances do not always allow them to conveniently fight in groups. Mages, sadly, tend to die more frequently over time than characters of other classes for a variety of reasons, including their having lower hit-points and their tending to wear less-protective gear during combat, particularly mana gear. For this reason, it can be argued that tank gear is more important to mages than any other set of gear, accompanied by an ability to change into it rapidly (using effective gear-changing aliases) at moments of mortal danger.

Mage Creation
Characters of any race may be mages but some races are far better suited for magery than others. Characters of races with relatively-high intelligence, such as centaurs, draconians, drow, and elves, tend to make excellent mages. Likewise, characters of races with relatively-low intelligence, such as gargoyles, giants, goblins, and troglodytes, tend to be poor mages with high rates of spellcasting failure, although some people still choose to play mages of such races because they enjoy their novelty or difficulty.

See also Wiseman's Avatar race comparison chart and/or Another Avatar MUD Site's Race-Class Comparer for some excellent comparative data to aid you in choosing your new mage's race.

Mages at Lowmort Tier
Training
As with any new character, a new mage's first priority should be to train wisdom, either as much as is possible or enough that it may be maximized using level gear, so as to gain as many practice-points per level as possible.

Mages should next train both their intelligence, which will (1) give them larger average mana gains and (2) increase their spell damage and (3) allow them to become adept at skills using fewer practice points, and their constitution, which will increase their average hit-point gains per level.

Mages should then consider training both their dexterity, which may help them avoid combat damage, and their strength, which will increase both their carrying capacity and their melee damage, although training these two statistics is less urgent and may be postponed if desired.

See Statistics for more detail about each of these five statistics and their effects.

Practicing
After maximizing their wisdom, intelligence, and constitution, mages may consider practicing skills.

Mages may practice skills only with trainers; see both Trainers and, more specifically, Mage Trainers for more information on these trainer mobs and on where they may be found.

Mages should generally keep their intelligence as high as possible (usually three more than their maximum trainable amount) while practicing skills so as to avoid needlessly wasting practice points; see Intelligence for more detail about skill-practicing costs. Lowmort mages may practice their skills up to 95%.

See Mage Lowmort Skills and Spells for more detail about what skills mages may practice at lowmort tier, at what level these skills may be practiced, and how useful they are.

Worshipping
Mages, as with all classes, may choose to worship a god or goddess at level 10 or beyond. Some deities, though, are better suited for mages to worship than others, particularly Bhyss, Shizaga, and Quixoltan.

Bhyss versus Shizaga: Bhyss and Shizaga are most popular among Avatar MUD's mages. Both of these deities decrease their worshippers' melee damage but increase their worshippers' spell damage, which is very beneficial to mages because they do more damage via their spells than via their weapons; Bhyss, however, does this more than Shizaga does, making him ideal for mages wishing to maximize their overall combat damage. Bhyss, however, also reduces gains in both hit-points and practice-points over time, making his worshippers easier to kill and slightly slower to develop skills; for these reasons, mages wanting to worship Bhyss may defer doing so until either hero or lord tier. And Bhyss also hurts with enchanting, whereas Shizaga helps with it, making Shizaga ideal for mages wishing to maximize their effectiveness at enchanting gear. Both Bhyss and Shizaga decrease their worshippers' buffing-spells' armor class, making their worshippers less desired by other characters, especially tanks, to provide them with such spells. In summary, Bhyss may be better suited for mages who plan to do nothing other than hit within groups, whereas Shizaga may be better suited for mages who expect to solo some, particularly to obtain and enchant gear--tasks for which mages are well-suited.

See Worship for more detail regarding worship options and their effects.

Fighting
As with characters of other classes, most lowmort mages should have little trouble soloing from level 1 to level 11 very quickly. Afterward, gaining experience alone will grow increasingly difficult and mages should seriously consider grouping with other characters. Once mages practice surge at level 25, they will find soloing somewhat easier once again.

Soloing: Mages may find soloing easier than characters of most other classes once they have practiced surge. Some find mage soloing to be rather tedious, overly repetitive, and/or lonesome, and may do so only if groups are not avaialable. Because mage soloing requires long periods of mana regeneration between kills, mage soloers may opt to engage in additional real-life activities while their characters are sleeping.

Tanking: Mages hardly ever serve as tanks at lowmort tier, although there are rare exceptions. Mages become much better able to tank groups during hero tier after practicing certain hero-tier skills (see below).

Hitting: Mages usually serve as hitters in lowmort groups. Mage hitters should normally wear mana gear to maximize their available mana, upon which they are highly dependent for doing damage. Mages who run low on mana during runs may attempt to alleviate this problem somewhat by "catching tics." Mage hitters typically fight by waiting for their tank to start fighting a mob, immediately using their kill command targetted at this same mob, and then casting a single-target attack spell (usually via an alias) repeatedly without specifying any target until this mob is dead. Whenever their tank is fighting more than a few mobs simultaneously, mage hitters may consider casting an area-effect attack spell instead of a single-target attack spell. Mage hitters should practice chaos channel as soon as possible, as it will rougly halve their mana costs for all of their attack spells while they are grouped.

Healing: Although clerics and their like are usually preferred as healers, they are not always available. Lowmort mages may substitute for characters of such classes by practicing arcane knowledge, by collecting certain brandishes (such as shards of durrite, limestone staves, fingerbones of Senex, gold dragon orbs, and white marble crosses) and by both holding and brandishing these as needed during runs.

Mage Prestige Options
Level-50 mages may choose to become either stormlords or wizards instead. As stormlords, well... that remains to be seen; see Stormlords for more information about this prestige class. As wizards, they will gain less hit points but more mana, they will do less melee damage but more spell damage, and they will forfeit their ability to learn certain psionic spells during hero tier but will gain other unique abilities instead; see Wizards for more information about this prestige class.

Mages at Hero Tier
Training
Mages at hero tier will be able to train their intelligence five higher than at lowmort tier and to train their other statistics two higher than at lowmort tier. They will continue to be able to raise each of their statistics up to three more than they can train them to (respectively), unless they devote themselves to a deity, in which case these amounts may be modified slightly. See Devoting below for more information about this subject.

Practicing
Mages should continue to practice skills with mage trainers and should usually keep their intelligence as high as possible while doing so, just as at lowmort tier. Hero mages may continue to practice their skills up to 95%. See Mage Hero Skills and Spells for more detail about what skills mages may practice at hero tier, at what level these skills may be practiced, and how useful they are.

Devoting
Mages, as with all classes, may choose to devote themselves to whichever deity they have chosen to worship (if any) at hero sublevel 1 or beyond.

Bhyss: Mages who devote themselves to Bhyss will experience both benefits and detriments; on one hand, they will have one greater maximum intelligence, which may or may not enable them to become adept at skills more quickly and which will increase their spell damage slightly; however, on the other hand, they will also have both one less maxium constitution and one less maximum dexterity, which will reduce both their hit-point gains and their ability to avoid damage and will thus make them a bit more "splatty" than they already are. In summary, if and when Bhyss worshippers devote themselves, they will dish out damage even better but take it even worse.

Shizaga: Mages who devote themselves to Shizaga will have one less maximum wisdom, which may--or may not--reduce their practice-point gains at hero tier; thus, mages worshipping Shizaga who are eager to learn all of their hero skills as quickly as possible may wish to postpone devotion until later in hero tier. If and when they devote themselves to Shizaga, they may benefit slightly from having one more maximum dexterity if and when they are attacked.

See Devote for more detail about devotion and its effects.

Fighting
Mages at hero tier may have more trouble finding groups than characters of many other classes. This is especially true at lower hero sublevels, where mages tend to die more readily and tend to run short of mana during runs.

Soloing: Mages will almost always solo for their levels unless they choose the tanking path. Mages will find it best to regenerate in mana gear, then to change into either tank gear or hit gear in order to fight, using a surged disintegrate spell to kill mobs. Popular mobs for low-hero mages to kill solo for experience include:
<ul>
<li>Shashwat Nisha's "yaks" and cobblynau (although they assist at hero),
<li>Sir Michael's Stronghold's wandering peasants and such, and
<li>Shadow Keep's rotting corpses and hound dogs.
</ul>
Popular mobs for higher hero mages to kill solo are:
<ul>
<li>Tortuga Cay's tortugas.
</ul>

Tanking: Mages tanks at hero tier are fairly common due to the difficulty they experience in finding groups to hit for. In fact, after practicing certain hero-tier skills, particularly dodge, parry, shield block, and charge shield, mages can become formidable tanks, wearing full tank gear for protection and using disintegrate, acid rain, and charged shields to deal damage.

Hitting: Mages will rarely serve as hitters in hero groups. Many, though hardly all, hero tanks expect their low-hero mage hitters to carry both mana gear and hit gear during runs, to wear their mana gear until they reach their base mana, and to change into their hit gear afterward. High-hero mages with greater base mana may opt to wear only hit gear. Mages who run low on mana during runs may attempt to alleviate this problem somewhat by "catching tics." Mage hitters typically fight by waiting for their tank to start fighting a mob, immediately using their kill command targetted at this same mob, and then casting disintegrate (usually via an alias) repeatedly without specifying any target until this mob is dead. Whenever their tank is fighting more than a few mobs simultaneously, mage hitters may consider casting acid rain instead of disintegrate. Even when not tanking, mage hitters may still wish to carry a set of tank gear with them that they can quickly change into in emergencies.

Healing: Mages occasionally serve as healers in hero groups, possibly when no clerics, druids, or priests are available. A few hero tanks may even prefer to group mages who heal with brandishes over clerics who heal with spells. Mages who maintain a stockpile of healing brandishes, such as gold dragon orbs, emerald sceptres of light, black staffs of Typhus, and white marble crosses, may thus be able to find groups slightly more often than mages who do not. Brandishes are best collected well before they are needed, as they tend to be consumed on runs faster than they can be easily replenished. Mage healers usually wear hit gear for runs, though mana gear may sometimes be useful or even tank gear in emergencies.

Mages at Lord Tier
Mages are always welcome in groups at lord tier because they excel at dealing damage and there are only a few runs where they are useless. Unlike hero tier mages are almost a requirement for most Lord running. They are also considerably larger and more robust than Wizards and Sorcerers (bested only by Mindbenders and Stormlords hp-wise), permitting them to serve as tank on smaller runs if their gear allows it. This physical advantage over the more powerful remort and prestige classes is moderated by their reduced usefulness in terms of available mana for damage purposes. They may also practice a spell that enables them to rename objects.

Mage Remort Options
Mages at lord tier may remort into sorcerers, either human ones at sublevel 100 or ones of their current race at sublevel 200. See Sorcerers for more information about this remort class.

Creatable races that are well-suited for this class include Centaurs, Elves, Drow, Half-Elves, Gnomes and Deep Gnomes. Remort races that are well-suited for magery include dragons, high elves, tuataurs, and sprites. Despite their relatively-high intelligence, griffons are ill-suited for spellcasting and thus tend to be poor mages. See Remort Races for information on the requirements for each of these races.
Recommended Group size: 13-16, 4+ tanks 5+ casters, at 1-2+ healers, and 1+ archer (needed))<br>
Note: this run generally takes 2 spellups, 1 for the ticket, 1 for the gear.<br>
<br>
Note 2n e from shift is Lloydable

<br>
Ticket portion:<br>
Planeshift to FireRealm and after shift is dead, head 3n 3e. After entering the water room, head up
and then n e. Send a tank to areaspell the two Massive Fire Elementals and head up to enter the Great Inferno. The next portion is a maze that loads randomly. To get to the top, head up, north, and east. The summit is approximately 15-20 rooms away. At the summit, the Inferno Dragon awaits.
<br>
<br>
Gear portion:<br>
<br>
Portal Lava naga from Iconoclastor's room and regen either in proper, or at home. If you have a paladin or druid, the room 2n e from shift can be safe havened and is lloydable. After regenning, track or portal Valarauco and Malarauko, the demon twins that hold the heart of Heat (Valarauco) and the limit of Light (Malarauko).

Note: The Burning Phoenix will corpse eat.<br>

The Circle teaches a small repertoire of psionic spells, including some unknown outside the circle. The Circle as a whole has a certain measure of Reputation, although individual Initiates cannot raise this, like an Assassin can. Like all Prestige Classes, they retain the original class's Prime Requisite, in this case, Dexterity. As a Psionic class, they possess a Psion's higher degree of success with spells such as deception. Joining the Circle is for life. Initiates cannot become Assassins or Berserkers like Rogues can. Rumor says the Circle maintains a base in warmer climes, where Masters can often be found.

Abbreviation: Bci.

Base Class: Rogue.

Prime Requisite: Dexterity.

BCIs in General
The Black Circle, much like the help file says, is a Rogue like assassin with some unique psionic abilities. BCI do not get a lot of arcane spells but they do gain some impressive psionics that only the Psi and Mnd can learn like overconfidence, anger management and death field. Also BCI can learn a couple skills unique only to the initiates like sense weakness and killer instinct.

BCI lose some very important hero spells like teleport, foci and awen so they become a bit tricky to play at low hero level so in groups you need to rely on groupmates to sanc you. Fortunately there are lots of great Maps and directions on this site to help you get around as well as get potions and brews to help you on your way. All in all, if you break apart foci and awen you only miss out on stone skin , protection good and sanc. So grab some Gauntlets Of Protection or an Opal Encased In A Bronze Ring and a few sanc quaffs and your ready to roll.

Once you get past the lack of arcane knowlege you can see how versatile the Circle can be. They are every bit as sneaky and eventually even a little more potent stabbers and BCI also get a bit of Reputation but not as much as assassins however though still noticable. And don't forget about your psionics. What else are you going to use all that mana for?

BCI Creation
Only creatable level-50 rogues of reptilian races, namely troglodytes, draconians, firedrakes ,lizardmen, and dragons qualify to become BCIs. Also remort races are tuataurs, minotaurs, and probably all the rest as long as you were BCI first. Although the reptilian races have the psionic boost i believe.

If you are still interested in joining the Black Circle you need to go see the Master. At level 30 you can check your progress and even see if you are able to join. The BCI master can be found at the bottom of The Vally of the Sun. One of the most important requirements besides race is your criminal record. It must be spottless before you join up. Afterwords you can rob every vendor in all of Midgaard without a care in the world, but until then, don't break the law.

Next, if your cold blooded with a clean record, you will need to have 1000 kills by level 50. With the new ability to become a prestige class up until hero level 100, a rogue will need to get 1200 kills if attempting to become a BCI at hero level 1 or above. Once you have your kill count up the BCI master will give you your quest. This is a ticket quest in Lord Audis' Villa where it is easy to get arrested so be carefull. The aggie assassins there stab hard and fighting them in the presence of a guard will give you an outlaw flag. If the servant spots you there, you'll get an outlaw flag too, even without any fighting.

Once you give the master the ticket item and you are level 50 you can use the prestige command and join up.

BCIs at Hero Tier
Training
As with any character, train wisdom first and then intelligence this will help you practice skills quicker and give you more mana each level. Next train con for better hp gains then dex and str to taste. If you find you are in need of more gear space go with str otherwise go with your prime requisite dex.

Practicing
Once you got your intelligence maxed and inteligence gear on you can start practicing your new skills. Also you will need to re-adept your old skills because you can train you skills to 95% now instead of 90% at lowmort.

Some hero skills are clones so you do not need to practicing them all like invis and mask. Other skills like pass door which is a part of foci is not learnable by BCI but ectoplasmic form is. Some of the best lowhero skills to learn are the ones the are found in or can replace those found in Foci/Awen as well as astral, anger management, overconfidence, deception and the psionic attack spells.

Devoting
The best suited gods to worship for BCI are Tor and Shizaga. Your playing style will influence your choice for the best one suited for your needs. If you Spend your time soloing the extra damage from Tor will help as well as the hp regen bonus. Shizaga also grants a stab bonus as well as a psionic bonus. Spells cost less with Shizaga and more with Tor.
Recap: Tor gives better melee and regen
Shizaga gives better spells, lower spell cost and better mana gain
Both give good hp gains and improve stabs

Devoting: Tor grants +2 str and +1 con wich could give you greater damage and better
hp gains. He also won't let you raise your int and wis as high as it
you used to which could affect your mana gains and practice gains as
well as the number of practices you need to adept a skill.
Shizaga grants +1 dex with helps with your rogue skills and ac but reduces
wis by 1 which could affect your practice gains.

Fighting
Killing is what Initiates do best

Soloing:

Soloing might be a bit tricky until after level 101. You will need to find gear or potions to make up for the lack of spells. To start out have a good mix of damage roll and ac gear. As time goes on you can slowly fase out the ac gear and eventually solo in full hit.

You might try the hound dogs in :Category:Shadow Keep. They flee easily which saves you hit points and is easy to walk to.
:Category:Dream Steppes is good after 101 and be sure to avoid the riders and masked psionicists for a while.

Tanking:

BCI tank rather well with bs or vs to open up commbat. At low hero you will need full ac gear and then slowly blend in hit to suit your playing style. Be sure to include someone in the group who can portal and sanc.

Hitting:

BCI don't really start hitting well until level 39 when they get third attack. They just keep getting better after that with other various skills. At low hero be sure to use your psionic attacks or throw weapon for added damage. Also use sneak attack to target mobs.

BCIs at Lord Tier
BCIs continue to be powerful characters at the lord tier. Your nightcloak skill insure your continuing high stab rate, and IC regeneration can be nice. In addition, you can help the tanks/group get steel. The BCIs missed out on the recent addition of Slip but they can still stab and let another rogue or asn slip in for later damage.

Depending on your race, you can either Sense Weakness and Vital Shot midround, or Mindwipe the mobs for a nice little boost in damage. From what I've heard, with normal T1 DR gear, a lizard will average more or less the same damage, with Mindwipe giving a chance to stun the mob (and prevent them from casting) and Vital Shot being able to to blind and weaken the mob in other ways. If someone has a BCI with gear and has run damage counters, this would be a great place to let us know.

BCI Remort Options
BCI has no class remort options, as BCI is for life. Strong, otherwise non-sneaky races make great remort choices for BCI, as their skill nightcloak greatly helps them stab. For that reason, minotaur is a popular choice, as they have one of the larger racial damage modifiers, thus making them excellent stabbers. Dragons also do well, and can go BCI even if they weren't originally one, and are a really great choice, but just have the problem of dragon tnl.
From Astral shift you need to follow this exact path:
2nusd2wneuse2dnw2sd3endwn2u

If you misstep you cannot get back on the path, so it is important that you don't leave groupies or psi weapons behind when moving. If this happens to you early in the run you can try recalling and starting over. If it happens later you can consider running Gear In Astral Plane or Memory Lane experience instead, or you could just go home dejected and defeated.

Memory Lane can be very swarmy, but large portions of the path can clear up all of a sudden. Be prepared to move multiple rooms in a row if the opportunity presents itself.

Once you reach the last few steps of the path (the ups) keep an eye out on scan for the Dark Queen Zydarielle, who wields the Long Bow "Deep Shadow". She's not too tough, but she's worth keeping an eye out for, especially if your tanks are low on hp.

Once you complete the path above you will be in a room titled "The Transformation". This room is a safe room and Lloydable but you can be longshotted by the Queen Zydarielle. If you want you can have a psi/mnd cast Planar Anchor to recruit more groupies. This is a good idea if some people need to leave early, or if you feel that you're not big enough for the gear mobs. Unless your group is overkill for the run it's probably a good idea to regen full and respell here. Before you move on from this room make sure that everyone in the group has a Fae Rune For 'Hope' in their inventory.

Once you're confident that you're ready to face the gear portion of the area, have a tank go up and target evil, and have another tank give hope good. Once they do this have the rest of the group follow suit. This will bring you to the first of five rooms of increasing difficulty. Each room has a key unlocking the next room to the north. If you're timing the repop, try to make it fall in the room that yields the Nethershroud, the Tuatar Battle Tunic, or the Golden Dragonskull, as opposed to the Boots Of The Righteous Path. Once you kill Sygerion and his cronies you can go down to reach a Homeshiftable room.
lloydable room (Stone Shelter): 2n e u. Or n e n u. Or s e s u (passing by Maelstrom on your way).

From stone shelter to maelstrom: d n.

The area is mostly a 4x4x4 or 5x5x5 cube, or so it seems. Not much bigger or smaller than that though, that's for sure.<br>
There are a few minor irregularities in the exits. That is to say, you won't always get back to the same room if you backtrack your steps. If you run here more often, it's useful to know roughly where backtracking will and will not take tou back to where you came from.

If you go down from the stone shelter, the rooms e, se, s, sw, w, su, n and the stone shelter itself are all directly connected without any irregularities. So if the anchor is in place, that's a great set of rooms to get some xp in without getting lost. Feel free to expand this knowledge with more rooms connected here that allow backtracking. (I am pretty sure down from the shelter, 2 rooms in any direction are okay. ee, ww, nn, ss, dd. Need to check on ne, nw, nu, nd, en, es, eu, ed, wn, ws, wu, wd, sd.)

Adventuring
This is a nice place for a group of ~8 to get exp. It only has one sentinel mob at shift, and you can get a Ring Of Water by killing one of the three deadlies.

Almost every room in this area has eight exits. This creates two problems for us:
*Sudden swarms can appear. Sometimes you can get away with running some small group exp here, but more often than not you get suddenly slammed by a huge wave. Sometimes this happens at shift, other times when spells are low.
*This area is hard to regen in. Here are a few good places to regen:
**Inside the maelstrom. From shift go s, e to reach the room with the maelstrom in it. Enter the maelstrom, deal with the surly (stabber), and regen. If you want to you can take on the water elemental ruler (who holds the tattoo) to the east. Otherwise your group must portal out.
**The stone shelter: 2e n u from shift. This is the lloydable room on this plane. From here you can enter a nexus to Nothing if you choose.
**Thorngate. If you win a fight by the skin of your teeth you might as well go back home and regen up proper. Consider making a shrine 2e. Retake shift when you're good and ready.

**If you see a room with 3 invis mobs on scan (red eyes), that's icesphere room.

eventually these mobs will get their own pages, but for now here's the levels of some of the mobs in water proper:
Mobs are aggresive, so your best bet is to speedwalk. Most mobs can not see invis however, so that should help a bit.

Portal to stone trickster. e2s, pull bloom, 2sesese3sdesuwn. You are now in a room with a heavily scarred ent.

You can also get to the ent by going e2s, pull bloom, 2sws, enter hole, 3sus. After you enter the hole, you are in a short, private passage with 2 wandering mobs. A lot easier then going by the dissolvers, the wyrms, and the reanimator.

This is a safe room, so regen here if needed. Go u2s. From this point on, the rooms are private, noquit, and you will not regen.

Go down. From here, there are four directions to choose, all of which contain the gear you are looking for - the only difference is in their names. The direction you want to go will depend on your alignment and class.

* North - No melee for good aligned players (Angelic casters) - The Swirl of Fumes
* East - No magic for evil aligned players (Demonic brutes) - The Grey Orb of Stone
* West - No melee for evil aligned players (Demonic casters) - The Crackling Sphere of Lightning
* South - No magic for good aligned players (Angelic brutes) - The Gnarled Branch of Age

The first mob holds the key. Unlock the next door to get to the gear mob.

Note that the room with the gear mob doesn't have an exit back to the room with the key mob, so if you for good spell item go through north door to gearmob from the mob with key, you can not go back south to the key mob. It has exits in all four directions and end out in the transfigured forest.

If you die in one of these rooms, your corpse will be moved out into the forest.
